What the 7th house covers
The 7th house is the kalatra bhava, the house of marriage and the spouse. It also covers business partners, agreements, public dealings and every one-to-one relationship. It is the descendant, directly opposite the lagna, so it shows how a person meets the other.
Venus is the karaka, or natural significator, of the 7th house. Astrologers read the 7th house, its lord and Venus together for any question about marriage or partnership, so a node in the 7th is always weighed against how Venus and the 7th lord are placed.
What Rahu stands for
Rahu is the north lunar node, a shadow planet with no body of its own. The tradition links it with desire, hunger for experience, the foreign and the unfamiliar, outsiders, breaking convention, confusion and sudden change.
It is often compared with Saturn in nature. Because it has no sign of its own in the usual scheme, Rahu is read as giving the results of the planet that rules the sign it sits in, and of planets conjunct it.
How classical texts read Rahu in the 7th
Classical texts and later astrologers associate Rahu in the 7th with strong attraction, a partner from a different background, culture, place or status, and relationships that do not follow the expected script.
The tradition also links it with restlessness, misunderstanding or unmet expectations between partners, and with an intense focus on the other person.
In business it is read as drawn to deals with outsiders or foreign contacts.
Rahu in the 7th always means Ketu in the 1st house. Astrologers read this axis as a pull between self and other: Ketu in the lagna is linked with detachment from one's own image or a sense of being unsure of oneself, while Rahu in the 7th turns attention outward toward partners. Balancing the two is the central theme of this placement.
What changes the reading
The sign Rahu occupies and the condition of that sign's lord shape the reading most. Traditions differ on where Rahu is exalted, with Taurus and Gemini both cited, and on its debilitation, so astrologers lean on the dispositor's strength.
Conjunctions matter too: Rahu with Venus, Mars or the 7th lord is read differently from Rahu alone, and Jupiter's aspect is read as steadying it.
Astrologers then check where the 7th lord sits, how Venus is placed, and what the navamsha (D9) shows for marriage. The Rahu dasha or antardasha is often when these themes become active. As with any placement, the reading comes from the whole chart, never from Rahu alone.
How to check it in your own chart
Make your free kundli on MyKundli and open the house view. Look at which sign your 7th house holds, which planet rules it and where that lord sits, and which planets share the 7th with Rahu.
Note the sign of your 1st house too, where Ketu sits, and check the lord of Rahu's sign and your D9 chart before forming a view.
